A team used to run 500 regression tests manually in ~5 days. After automating most tests, execution takes a few hours.
But they also spend time maintaining scripts and triaging failures—so true savings must include that overhead.
How to measure it (realistic approach)
- Define baseline: manual execution time for a given scope.
- Measure automated execution time for the same scope.
- Add automation overhead: maintenance + flaky triage + updates.
